Signifying the final phase of a multi-phase project, TUFF has received the Certificate of Occupancy for Florida Tech's Aquatics Facility. The new facility features a competition pool, a recreation pool, a covered spectator seating area, varsity locker rooms, a public changing room, and offices for coaches and lifeguards. The competition pool consists of nine 25-yard lanes, the preferred length for NCAA short-course swimming competition. Additionally, the pool hosts a one and a three-meter diving board.
“We’re excited about the new aquatic center and the opportunities it provides for varsity competition and recreation,” Florida Tech's athletic director Bill Jurgens said. “We’re looking forward to competing at the NCAA Division II level and being a part of the Sunshine State Conference swimming and diving division."
Since late 2007, TUFF has been working with Florida Institute of Technology to add significant program to their Melbourne campus. The successful delivery of the aquatics facility completes the $58 million new construction program, which included a student housing facility, a science and engineering facility, a food service facility, and a structured parking deck.
