Savannah State University Student Housing
Savannah State University, a State supported Historically Black College and University (HBCU), was in desperate need of new student housing as they were experiencing decreased enrollment due to the lack of quality living facilities. However, the University lacked sufficient resources to fund such a project.
TUFF was asked to address the critical housing situation. With $21.5 million in tax-exempt bonds, TUFF invested in new student housing and offered the facilities at below market rates. In 2007, the Savannah State University Foundation was able to purchase the facility from TUFF.
The housing project includes 660 beds consisting of two and four bed garden style apartments. The design of the dorms and availability of useful amenities has increased the quality of student life. The University contributes the success of this project to escalating student enrollment.
